Chinese Brush Painting Description

Chinese Brush Painting is quite different from Western Oil painting. There are rules and techniques which must be followed. The mind must be focused on the painting, and the entire body moves in communion with each brush stroke. The painting is a balance of positive space: the objects which you see, and of negative space: the surface void of painting. Most paintings in this art balance between small, medium and large in both positive and negative space. The ink or paints are mixed with water in varying degrees in a shallow, ceramic dish and applied to the paper with quick strokes of the brush.
